Does baking soda and sugar really kill roaches?

Does baking soda and sugar really kill roaches?

There is a lot of debate about this topic on the internet. Some people have claimed to use sugar (as an attractant) and mix it with baking soda to kill roaches and other insects. The scientific and pest control communities generally do not recognize this as accurate. Personally, I believe that this is simply a confusion between two chemical compounds. Bake Soda is Sodium Bicarbonate, which I believe people are confusing with Sodium Tetraborate, which is in Borax. The mixture of borax and sugar has been mixed together to treat ants and roaches, and the pest control community uses this active ingredient in several different branded pesticides.
