Unfortunately, this is true! Roaches have an amazing ability to hold their breath and can survive being underwater for up to 30m. Some research shows that they are less able to survive being submerged in warm water. Cockroaches need to sometimes control water loss and therefore develop the ability to hold their breath for extended periods. Just another reason to hate these nasty little critters!!!!
