It is an ongoing debate whether or not roaches are affected or will receive a lethal dose of baking soda when they come in contact with it. Many have suggested that the mention of baking soda killing insects is a confusion between sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and sodium tetraborate (Borax). The latter ingredient is the main ingredient in several branded pesticides.
